SOVIET UNION EXPRESS SHIP MAIL ON THE BLACK SEA: BATUM - ODESSA LINE
Black Sea EXPRESS Ship Mail 1934 (14 May) - Domestic mail sent from a correspondant of the newspaper Pravda to Moscow, mail onboard a SHIP from the BATUM - ODESSA line. Endorsed "SPECHNOE" and correctly franked at 80k (Express rate, tariff of 15 May 1932), the adhesive tied by the circular postmark "ODESSA BATUM SHIP 14 5 34" (28 mm ∅), arrival Moscow 18 May 1934. Envelope tired with some tears.
Very rare item, this is the first Soviet Ship Mail sent EXPRESS that we have seen. The ship mail on the Black Sea is very uncommon during Soviet times (much scarcer than during the Imperial period).
