USSR 1924 USAGE OF A CHARITY LABEL TO SOVIET CENTRAL ASIA
Leningrad 1924 (25 July) - Domestic envelope to Tashkent, "Small Head" 20k green on the back, on the front CHARITY LABEL for the benefit of Civil War Orphans. The label was tied by the Leningrad office postmark but the 20k adhesive mistakenly left uncancelled, upon arrival the mistake was noticed and the postal stamp tied by the receiving canceller "TASHKENT -6 8 24 f", two strikes repeated on back and front. Very Fine.
An unusual cover.
Note: 20 kopek was overpaying the normal letter rate (tariff of 1st October 1923: 6 kopek only) and it is remains open to discussion whether that mail is philatelically contrived or not.
