Port of Chios 1912 (7 December) - Envelope sent from the Aegean Sea port of CHIOS to AOHNAI in Greece, via the Russian ROPIT agency post. Departure handstamp scarce black negative Free Frank seal "Chio Poste Russe Gratuit" (36 mm). Arrival on reverse 12 December 1912. An attractive item with a clear strike of the scarce negative ROPIT seal (light central vertical fold away from the postmarks).
For a few months in the end of 1912, the mail from Chios, small port (15000 inhabitants c. 1900) on the east coast of the island, was handled for free by the ROPIT agency.
