CAUCASUS VILLAGE GOMBORY, TIFLIS PROVINCE : UNIQUE
Gombory, Tiflis Province 1903 (28 August) - Postcard sent to Tiflis, 3k Arms paying the correct rate (tariff of 20 march 1879) and tied with the unrecorded single circle handstamp "GOMBORY TIFLIS G. 28 AUG 1903" (∅ 26mm). Arrival Tiflis 2 September 1903. Recipient name & adress partly erased, otherwise Very Fine.
A recent discovery and probably unique, unrecorded in Ashford´s Imperial Stamps Used in Transcaucasia (see Part Three, page 163 :"So far, no Imperial stamps have been recorded bearing Gombory cancellations")

Note: Gombory was a small village on the road between Tiflis and Telav, and mentioned in the Baedeker travelling guide. Ashfort (opus cit.) mentions only one cover from the Georgian period, dated 1920, with another postmark.
