ST PETERSBURG 1822: EXCEPTIONAL USAGE OF BOTH DOMESTIC & FOREIGN DEPARTURE POSTMARKS
St Petersburg 1822 (20 December) - Folded commercial entire to Pernau (current Pärnu, Estonia), with BLACK foreign departure handstamp in French "ST PETERSBOURG" applied by mistake by the office for FOREIGN outgoing mail; re-directed to the office dealing with inland mail where a second strike in RED of the DOMESTIC departure was applied. Very Fine.
An exceptionally rare item showing both colours used (black & red) by both inland & foreign sorting offices.
