EARLY BOLSHEVIK MAIL SENT ABROAD DURING THE CIVIL WAR
Petrograd 1920 (14 June) - Postal stationery card 20k blue (Kerensky issue) sent to Zürich, Switzerland. Used as a blank card during Free Post Period, where unregistered mail was sent free of charge. Transit postmark Petrograd 17 June. Very Fine.
The Soviet regime stopped all postal communication to foreign destinations during the early phases of the Civil War, and sending mail to foreign countries was reinstalled only in June 1920. The initial routing available to the Bolsheviks was via Archangelsk or Murmansk, White Sea then Vardo in Norway. Early mail from Bolshevik Russia sent abroad at that time is very elusive.
