SOVIET AIRMAIL CENTRAL ASIA & TAJIKISTAN: DUSHAMBE – SAMARKAND - TASHKENT LINE
Moscow 1938 (31 October) - Domestic Airmail ordinary envelope to STALINABAD (DUSHANBE, TAJIKISTAN), sent via the CENTRAL ASIA line TASHKENT – SAMARKAND - DUSHANBE. Correctly franked with Polar Expedition commemorative paying the 80k airmail rate (tariff of 16 February 1938). Arrival after 5 days, on reverse machine receiver Stalinabad 4 November 1938. Very Fine.
Postal communications between Central Asia and Moscow were of utmost importance, from 1st May 1930 the air connection Moscow -Taskent was established, via Samara-Orenburg-Aralsk-Kazalinsk-Kzyl Orda (about 3350 km). A second air connection was extended further from Tashkent to Dushanbe/Stalinabad via Samarkand (see Mr Ackerman excellent reference book for further details).
